چکیده

ABSTRACT The copolymerizations of vinyl chloride with o-olefin or acrylic compounds were investigated with organometallic compounds as catalysts. In general, organoaluminium compounds need to be treated with a complexing agent such as tetrahydrofuran prior to use. Otherwise the former reacts with polyvinyl chloride and loses its activity. The copolymer of vinyl chloride and propylene was thus obtained. The properties of the copolymer produced are almost the same as of that produced by conventional radical polymerization. Vinyl chloride is capable of .copolymerizing with acrylonitrile without any complexing agent, since the latter monomer acts as a complexing agent. Transtion metal compounds are useful cocatalysts for enhancing catalytic activity. It was found that the use of equimolar or greater amounts of organoaluminium compounds yields. a 1: 1 -copolymer regardless of monomer composition, whereas a smaller amount of the catalyst produces random copolymers. This fact is interpreted by an assumption that the copolymerization takes place between free acrylonitrile and a ternary complex of vinyl chloride, acrylonitrue and aluminium compound.

Grafting Copolymerization of Cationic Vinyl Monomer with Quaternary Ammonium Groups onto Polypropylene

Grafting polymerization was a valuable method for the modification of the chemical and physical properties of polymer surfaces. In this paper, the grafting of cationic vinyl monomer with quaternary ammonium groups, methacryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC), onto the isotactic polypropylene (iPP) granule was performed by suspension solid-state grafting process. The techniqu...

Copolymerization studies of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate with ethylene using a transition-metal catalyst.

Since the advent of Ziegler-Natta polymerization of ethylene, attempts have been made to extend coordination polymerization to commercially important monomers with polar functionality. In this study we examined the copolymerization of perdeuterated vinyl chloride (VC) and perdeuterated vinyl acetate (VA) with ethylene using a tridentate Fe(II) dichloride pyridine diimine metal catalyst. The res...

Miniemulsion Copolymerization of Ethylene and Vinyl Acetate

The copolymerizations of a gaseous monomer (ethylene) and a liquid monomer (vinyl acetate) via emulsion and miniemulsion polymerizations are reported. Reactions in which the vinyl acetate was introduced in both batch and semibatch modes are carried out. (Ethylene introduction is always in a semibatch model since the polymerization is carried out under a constant pressure of ethylene in the reac...

Investigations on Vinylene Carbonate. IV. Radiation Induced Graft Copolymerization of Vinylene Carbonate and N-Vinyl-N-Methylacetamide onto Polyethylene Films

Graft copolymerization of binary mixtures of vinylene carbonate (VCA) and N-vinyl-Nmethylacetamide (VIMA) onto low density polyethylene (LDPE) films was studied by the mutual y-irradiation technique. Sufficient amounts of functionally active VCA groups could be grafted onto the surface and the hydrophilicity of the surface was also improved. The grafting of VCA onto polyethylene films in the bi...

CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY SERIES No. 290 Metallocene-Catalyzed Ethene Polymerization: Long-Chain Branched Polyethene

Long-chain branches and narrow molecular weight distribution is a novel structure combination in polyethene, which has only been possible to achieve with single-center catalysis. Long-chain branches, even at very low concentrations, have a strong effect on the polymer melt behavior and, thereby, the processing properties. This work deals with ethene polymerization using group IV metallocene cat...
